The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the Presentation Ceremony of ‘Sin Wai Kin CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarships in Arts, History and Philosophy’ on Wednesday, 11 October 2023. The event was graced by the presence of  Mr. Sin Nga-yan, Benedict, the representative of Dr. Sin Wai-kin and the Director and General Manager of Myer Jewelry Manufacturer Limited, Dr. Joseph Pang, Convenor of CUHK 50^th Anniversary Fund Raising Committee, Mr. Heung Shu-fai, Louis, Trustee of New Asia College of CUHK, Professor Chan Tak-cheung, Anthony, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK, Professor Wong Ka-chat, Andy, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid of CUHK, Professor Tang Xiao-bing, Max, Dean of Faculty of Arts of CUHK, and Ms. Lolitta Wong, Director of Institutional Advancement of CUHK.

In the welcoming speech, Professor Anthony Chan thanked Dr. Sin and his family for their longstanding support rendered to CUHK, in particular towards the academic research on humanities.  Mr. Benedict Sin encouraged all scholarship recipients to equip themselves and share their knowledge to others to building a better future for the society. Ms Lau Wing-yan, a year one student from the Department of English represented all scholarship recipients to express their gratitude to Dr Sin for his generosity in setting up this meaningful award which relieved their financial burden and encouraged them to strive for the betterment of the society. The recipients had a fruitful exchange session with distinguished guests and shared their future plans with the guests during the post-ceremonial luncheon.

Aiming to foster academic research, the ‘Sin Wai Kin CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarships in Arts, History and Philosophy’ was established in 2013 by Dr. Sin Wai-kin in the midst of the 50^th anniversary of CUHK to award outstanding students majoring in Arts, History and Philosophy.

This event marked the first post-pandemic tea gathering. Mr. Jimmy Jim, Vice-President of Shanghai Fraternity Association Hong Kong Limited (SFA), Professor Anthony Chan Tak-cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK, Professor Ellis Fok Kin-lam, Acting Master of Lee Woo Sing College of CUHK, and honorable guests of SFA and over forty recipients of Shanghai Fraternity Association Diligence Bursaries attended this delightful event.

In his welcoming address, Professor Anthony Chan expressed his congratulations to Mr. Chao Kee-tung, the newly appointed President of the Shanghai Fraternity Association, and extended his heartfelt gratitude for the unwavering support and dedicated efforts received from the Association over the years. Professor Anthony Chan encouraged the recipients to equip themselves with valuable skills and knowledge. “I hope all the recipients will make the most out of your four years in the University to broaden your horizons, equip yourself well for the future, apply your knowledge in the workplace, and contribute to our society. Let’s carry forward the ideals of CUHK and SFA to continue helping the underprivileged in our society. On behalf of all recipients, Li Chak-him gave a vote of thanks. He expressed earnest thanks to SFA for their financial support. Diligence Bursaries alleviate financial burden of the recipients, helping them to pursue their dreams. He also pledged to uphold the spirit of “diligence” as a guiding principle in his life and promised to contribute to Hong Kong to the best of his abilities.

Shanghai Fraternity Association made a donation to CUHK for the establishment of the Shanghai Fraternity Association Diligence Bursaries in 2017. The program provides financial support to 125 undergraduate students with financial needs at CUHK, including 35 students from Lee Woo Sing College. The program aims at alleviating the financial burden on students, enabling them to concentrate on their academic pursuits and personal development.

The Presentation Ceremony of the “Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin Kenneth Li Scholarship” was held successfully on Monday, 27 March 2023 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The ceremony was officiated by Mr Kenneth Li, Managing Director of Carlton City Hotel Singapore, Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK as well as management delegation from The University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Dr. Hui Sin Kuen, Principal of Ning Po College , Mr. Tang King Chi, former Principal of Ning Po College, and Mr. Leung Chiu Yin, Principal of Ning Po No. 2 College also attended the ceremony.

In his welcoming address, Professor Tuan expressed his sincere gratitude to Dr Li Dak-sum and Mr Kenneth Li for their generosity in establishing the Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin Kenneth Li Scholarship, as well as their contribution in promoting education and grooming the next generation of leaders for Hong Kong and the nation. Professor Tuan also encouraged all scholarship recipients not to forget the beneficence of Dr Li and Mr Li and they should devote themselves for the betterment of society in future.

In 2015, Dr Li made a magnificent donation of a total of HK$300 million to The University of Hong Kong (HKU), CUHK and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (UST) for the establishment of “Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin Kenneth Li Scholarship”. The scholarship aims to award graduates from Ning Po College and Ning Po No. 2 College, with outstanding academic performance, good conduct and financial needs, to pursue tertiary education in HKU, CUHK and UST.
