The Presentation Ceremony of the “Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin Kenneth Li Scholarship” was held successfully on Monday, 27 March 2023 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The ceremony was officiated by Mr Kenneth Li, Managing Director of Carlton City Hotel Singapore, Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK as well as management delegation from The University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Dr. Hui Sin Kuen, Principal of Ning Po College , Mr. Tang King Chi, former Principal of Ning Po College, and Mr. Leung Chiu Yin, Principal of Ning Po No. 2 College also attended the ceremony.

In his welcoming address, Professor Tuan expressed his sincere gratitude to Dr Li Dak-sum and Mr Kenneth Li for their generosity in establishing the Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin Kenneth Li Scholarship, as well as their contribution in promoting education and grooming the next generation of leaders for Hong Kong and the nation. Professor Tuan also encouraged all scholarship recipients not to forget the beneficence of Dr Li and Mr Li and they should devote themselves for the betterment of society in future.

In 2015, Dr Li made a magnificent donation of a total of HK$300 million to The University of Hong Kong (HKU), CUHK and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (UST) for the establishment of “Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin Kenneth Li Scholarship”. The scholarship aims to award graduates from Ning Po College and Ning Po No. 2 College, with outstanding academic performance, good conduct and financial needs, to pursue tertiary education in HKU, CUHK and UST.

The 15th CUHK Golf Day was held on Monday, 13 February 2023 at the Eden Course, Hong Kong Golf Club, Fanling. The event drew an excellent response from CUHK alumni and friends, and featured 25 teams with 100 golfers in total. The event has raised over 5 Million in support of CUHK and the proceeds will go towards the development of the University, Colleges, as well as enriching the “CUHK Golf Day Scholarship”.

The Tee-off Ceremony was officiated by Professor Anthony Chan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK, Mrs Carol Tsang, Platinum Sponsor and representative of Billion Charity Fund and Mr Stewart Cheng, Gold Sponsor of the event. During the Ceremony, Professor Chan expressed his gratitude towards alumni and friends of CUHK for their steadfast support in making CUHK's Golf Day a remarkable event. “The 15th Golf Day, the first hallmark event following the CUHK's 60th Anniversary Commencement Ceremony, was a perfect warm-up for our upcoming celebratory event.” said Professor Chan.

Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, conveyed that he was delighted to see CUHK Golf Day has received such enthusiastic responses. He believed that the event creates a valuable opportunity for donors, alumni and friends to gather through golfing. As 2023 marks the 60th Anniversary of CUHK, the great success of the CUHK Golf day demonstrated the vitality and harmony of the CUHK family.

The prestigious “CU Cup” went to the United College this year and “United College Team (2)” was the Champion of the “Oriental Watch Open Cup - Best Net” prize. The New Asia College has also been awarded the “Most Active Participation Award” this year.   Please click here for the complete results of the tournament.

CUHK Golf Day Scholarship

Established in 2011, the “CUHK Golf Day Scholarship” is an admission scholarship for first-year undergraduates who achieved academic excellence and participated actively in voluntary services and sports activities. Financial needs of students will also be taken into consideration during the selection process.  A total of nine outstanding students were awarded the scholarship this year.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (“CUHK”) has received a donation from Nissin Foods (Hong Kong) Charity Fund (“Charity Fund”) for the establishment of the Nissin Foods Scholarships for Food and Nutritional Sciences students.

The scholarship aims to encourage undergraduate and postgraduate students of CUHK’s Food and Nutritional Sciences (Hons) programme to pursue academic excellence. The seven scholarship recipients for the 2022-2023 academic year are: CHAN Hoi Yi, HSU Po Ling, KWAN Ka Yi, LAM Shuk Fan, WONG Wai Yee from the Bachelor’s degree programme, and KEI Nelson, LIN Yuhong from the Ph.D programme. The full scholarship is provided by Charity Fund and will be used to pay for tuition fees for eligible students.

Mr. Kiyotaka ANDO, Chairman of Nissin Foods (Hong Kong) Charity Fund, said, “At Nissin Foods, we believe that “food-related jobs are sacred profession”, because food supports life. Charity Fund is pleased to collaborate with CUHK for the launch of Nissin Foods Scholarship for Food and Nutritional Sciences students. We share similar value in nurturing outstanding and caring food and nutrition professionals, who would contribute to the development of the food industry in Hong Kong as well as to the Hong Kong society at large. We believe that by cultivating a healthy lifestyle through food, a new crop of food and nutrition professionals will emerge to carry on the Team Nissin spirit – passing it on from one generation to the next.”

Professor Anthony CHAN, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK, expressed his sincere gratitude for the generosity of the Charity Fund, saying, “The university feels privileged that we share the same vision of innovation as the Nissin Foods (Hong Kong) Charity Fund. Nurturing talent and sparing no effort to provide them with fertile ground to grow and strive for innovation has always been CUHK’s top priority. With this aspiration in mind, CUHK seeks to work closely with reliable partners in the promotion of higher education and in providing ample opportunities for students.” 

Mr. Nelson KEI, representative of the recipients expressed his gratitude to Charity Fund and CUHK for establishing the Nissin Foods Scholarship and presented a letter of appreciation to the representative of Charity Fund at the ceremony. He said: "The Nissin Foods Scholarship means so much to me because it helps us realise our dreams, and also motivates us to continue to pursue excellence in our studies.”
