The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the ninth “Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarship Presentation Ceremony” on Tuesday, 29 November 2022. The ceremony was officiated by Mr. Thomas Liang, Chief Executive of the Wei Lun Foundation, Miss Michelle Liang and Professor Anthony Chan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK.

In his welcoming address, Professor Anthony Chan expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Lee Family and the Wei Lun Foundation for their unfailing support to CUHK over the years. He also congratulated and encouraged all the Scholars to not forget the beneficence and the philanthropic vision of the late Dr the Honourable Lee Quo-wei and the Wei Lun Foundation.

A total of 51 students have been awarded the “Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarship” this year. On behalf of all recipients, awardee representative Chung Kwun Hang, Henry conveyed his gratitude to the Wei Lun Foundation for supporting their dreams and providing them precious opportunities to gain insights into knowledge that is not taught in the classroom.

Celebrating the Golden Jubilee of CUHK in 2013, the “Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarship Endowment Fund” was established to award medical students, law students and Mainland students with excellent academic achievement, and also support the students with financial needs for the exchange programmes.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the Presentation Ceremony of ‘Sin Wai Kin CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarships in Arts, History and Philosophy’ on Thursday, 6 October 2022.  The event was graced by the presence of  Mr. Sin Nga-yan, Benedict, the representative of Dr. Sin Wai-kin and the Director and General Manager of Myer Jewelry Manufacturer Limited, Dr. Joseph Pang, Convenor of CUHK 50^th Anniversary Fund Raising Committee, Mr. Heung Shu-fai, Louis, Trustee of New Asia College of CUHK, Professor Chan Tak-cheung, Anthony, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK, Professor Wong Ka-chat, Andy, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid of CUHK, Professor Tang Xiao-bing, Max, Dean of Faculty of Arts of CUHK, and Ms. Lolitta Wong, Director of Institutional Advancement of CUHK.

In the welcoming speech, Professor Anthony Chan expressed gratitude to Dr. Sin and his family for their steadfast support to CUHK, particularly with regards to nurturing future talents in the field of Arts, History and Philosophy. Mr. Benedict Sin also urged all scholarship recipients to remember their enthusiasm and devote themselves to help shape our society of the future with their expertise.

Aiming to foster academic research, the ‘Sin Wai Kin CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarships in Arts, History and Philosophy’ was established in 2013 by Dr. Sin Wai-kin in the midst of the 50^th anniversary of CUHK to award outstanding students majoring in Arts, History and Philosophy.  Mr. Wong Kang-shing, from Department of History represented all scholarship recipients to express their gratitude to Dr. Sin for his generosity in setting up this meaningful award which relieved their financial burden in order to further their studies, broaden their horizons and provided more career or advancement opportunities.  Thank you cards were presented by the scholarship recipients to Mr. Sin at the end of the Ceremony.  They also shared with the distinguished guests their university lives and future plans on the occasion.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized the ‘Gathering with Recipients of Shanghai Fraternity Association Diligence Bursaries’ on Wednesday, 14 September 2022. Mr. William Lee Tak-lun, President of Shanghai Fraternity Association Hong Kong Limited (SFA), Professor Anthony Chan Tak-cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK, Professor Joseph Lau Wan-yee, Master of Lee Woo Sing College of CUHK, Directors and honorable guests of SFA and over twenty recipients of Shanghai Fraternity Association Diligence Bursaries attended this joyful event. Dr. Yau-yat, the Executive Director of Academy Of Chinese Studies, was also invited for giving a talk on the subject ‘This is our Palace Museum’. The highlight of the Gathering was the exchange session, where the recipients had the opportunities to learn about the stories to success from the honorable guests of SFA. The Gathering came into fruition with the enthusiastic exchange of ideas as well as the invaluable rapport established between the recipients and the guests.

Professor Anthony Chan expressed his deepest gratitude to SFA for their generous support towards CUHK over the years in his welcoming remark.  ‘I hope all awardees will fully utilize the bursaries for self-improvement purposes and help those in need for the betterment of our society in the future,’ said Professor Chan.  Mr. William Lee Tak-lun appreciated the arrangement of the Gathering and he hoped that the increased bursaries quotas in the upcoming semester will support more students extensively.

The Shanghai Fraternity Association Diligence Bursaries were established in 2017 for local full-time undergraduates in CUHK. SFA has confirmed to increase the bursary quotas to one hundred and twenty-five in total starting from the academic year 2022-2023, benefiting more outstanding students with financial needs.  On behalf of all recipients, Mok Hoi-yi gave a vote of thanks at the gathering.  She expressed heartfelt thanks to SFA for their generous support. With the Diligence Bursaries, students like her can concentrate on their studies and explore their true interests despite financial condition of their families.
