The Chinese University owes much of its success to the support of benefactors and alumni over the past decades. To foster closer relationship with alumni, patrons and friends in the U.S., The Chinese University of Hong Kong Foundation, Inc. was registered and qualified under IRC Section 501 (c)(3) of Internal Revenue Service in the U.S.A. as a tax exempt organization. Donations from the U.S. can be made to the Foundation and are tax deductible with official receipts with immediate effect.

Over 1,000 graduating students thronged to sign up the "2007 Graduating Class Pledge Scheme" in response to the College Heads’ appeal during the College Photo Days. Many of them were proud to wear their class pin expressing their heartfelt gratitude to the University. We are pleased to announce that close to 40% of the Undergraduates have already signed up the Scheme for this year.

Launched since 2004, the "Graduating Class Pledge Scheme" aims to encourage new graduates to foster the tradition of giving back to their Alma Mater. The Scheme falls part of the series under the University-wide Alumni Donation Scheme. Graduating Students who have pledged to donate HK$500 or HK$800 in three years will receive tailor-made souvenir pins, with the University’s emblem and year of graduation engraved on it as tokens of commitment.

Over 1,800 new graduates, or 31% of the CUHK graduating class of 2006 supported their Alma Mater by participating in the "2006 Graduating Class Pledge Scheme", an annual campaign which encourages the new graduates donating HK$500 to their Alma Mater in three years. These heart-warming gifts raised nearly HK$1 million for the University.

The Scheme aims to advocate the graduating alumni to endow the current students by giving back to their Alma Mater. Pledged participants would each obtain a uniquely designed class pin with the emblem of the University and "Class of 2006" on it as a symbol of commitment.

Mr. Ricky Cheng, Director of the Office of Institutional Advancement, remarked that in addition to raising nearly HK$1 million for the University annually, the spirit of the Scheme lays in sowing the "Seed of Giving" in our new graduates so as to nurture the bonding with their Alma Mater. He was grateful to learn that more than 1,800 new graduates have committed to the Scheme so far.

Launched since 2004, the Scheme enters its third year with well over 4,000 participants.
