The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is pleased to invite the Keble College Choir of the University of Oxford to present a Lunchtime Music Concert at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, CUHK on Monday, 20 March 2017. Participated by close to 150 staff and students of CUHK, the concert features choral pieces from the European tradition including Missa O quam gloriosum by Tomás Luis de Victoria and motets from Thomas Tallis and Francis Poulenc.

After the concert, Professor Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, hosted a luncheon for the delegation from Keble College at the Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge. The luncheon was graced by the presence of Sir Johnathan Phillips, Warden of Keble College, Ms Jenny Tudge, Director of Development of Keble College, Mr Matthew Martins, Director of Music of Keble College, as well as members of the Keble College Choir.

This concert is a highlight of the “East Meets West Music Reciprocal Tour” jointly organized by CUHK and the University of Oxford, and generously supported by the E & R Foundation and the GS Charity Foundation. In February this year, the CU Chinese Music Ensemble of the Department of Music of CUHK was invited to present classical Chinese music pieces at the University of Oxford and the British Museum.

The first Presentation Ceremony of the “Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin Kenneth Li Scholarship” was held on Monday, 27 February 2017 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The ceremony was officiated by Mr Kenneth Li, Managing Director of Carlton City Hotel Singapore, and Professor Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK. Mr Tang King-chi, Principal of Ning Po College and Mr Wong King-hung, Principal of Ning Po No. 2 College also attended the ceremony.

In his welcoming address, Professor Sung expressed his deepest gratitude to Dr Li Dak-sum for his generous donation in establishing this scholarship, as well as his unfailing support towards tertiary education in Hong Kong. Professor Sung encouraged all scholarship recipients to learn from Dr Li, be thankful, and give back to the society in the future.

In 2015, Dr Li made a magnificent donation of a total of HK$300 million to The University of Hong Kong (HKU), CUHK and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (UST) for the establishment of “Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin Kenneth Li Scholarship”. The scholarship aims to award graduates from Ning Po College and Ning Po No. 2 College, with outstanding academic performance, good conduct and financial needs, to pursue tertiary education in HKU, CUHK and UST. 

The “Ho & Ho Foundation Scholars Tea Gathering” was held on Saturday, 25 February 2017 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Miss Yvonne Chan, Chairman of the Ho & Ho Foundation, family members of the Foundation, Professor Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President and Director of Admissions and Financial Aid of CUHK, and over 20 Ho & Ho Foundation Scholars and representatives from CUHK, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (UST) attended this joyful event.

In her welcoming address, Professor Wong expressed her sincere gratitude to the Ho & Ho Foundation for their staunch support towards higher education in Hong Kong. She also encouraged all Ho & Ho Foundation Scholars to seize this valuable opportunity to exchange ideas with our guests and fellow students. ‘I hope all of you will endeavour to pursue academic excellence, and give back to your alma mater and the society in the future,’ said Professor Wong.

Established by Mr Ho Ming-sze in 2004, the Ho & Ho Foundation aims to support students from the “Red Triangle Region” of China (i.e. Shaoguan in Guangdong, Ganzhou in Jiangxi, and Chenzhou in Hunan) to pursue higher education in Hong Kong. In 2012, the Foundation generously donated to CUHK, PolyU and UST for setting up the “Ho & Ho Foundation Scholarship” which supports students from the “Red Triangle Region” to pursue tertiary education in the three institutions.
