The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is honoured to receive two generous donations from the Shanghai Fraternity Association Hong Kong Limited (SFA) to establish the ‘The Chinese University of Hong Kong - Shanghai Fraternity Association Integrative Medical Centre’ (the Centre) in Wan Chai, being the third satellite integrative medicine centre operated by Hong Kong Institute of Integrative Medicine (HKIIM) of Faculty of Medicine, and to sponsor HK$1.155 million in support of the ‘Science Academy for Young Talent of The Chinese University of Hong Kong STEM Programme’ to nurture young scientists in Hong Kong.

Officiated at by Mr William Lee Tak-Lun, President of SFA and Professor Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, a memoranda of understanding signing ceremony was held on Monday, 11 June 2018.  The ceremony was also graced by the presence of Dr Lee Woo-Sing, Honorary Life President of SFA, Dr Norman N. P. Leung, Chairman of the Council of CUHK, as well as Council Members of SFA and CUHK representatives.  Professor Leung Ting-hung, Medical Director, Integrative Medical Centre of Faculty of Medicine, CUHK and Professor Wong Suk-ying, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK introduced the Centre and the STEM Programme respectively at the ceremony.

On behalf of CUHK, Professor Rocky Tuan expressed his sincere gratitude to SFA for its unfailing support towards CUHK over the years.  ‘SFA has made remarkable contributions towards public welfare and the advancement of local education.  I hope the partnership with SFA will continue in enhancing the development of integrative medicine and cultivating potential young leaders for future,’ said Professor Tuan.  Mr William Lee was happy to work closely with CUHK for the betterment of the community.  He remarked, ‘We believe the development of integrated medicine and innovation and technology can benefit all mankind.  SFA is pleased to share the same mission with CUHK in striving for the long-term sustainable development of Hong Kong.’

The Chinese University of Hong Kong - Shanghai Fraternity Association Integrative Medical Centre

SFA will offer part of its premises on the first floor of the Southorn Mansion in Wan Chai, for HKIIM to establish The Chinese University of Hong Kong - Shanghai Fraternity Association Integrative Medical Centre, with a nominal fee of HK$1 per month.  SFA also agreed a donation-in-kind to HKIIM for the renovation of the premises to meet the Centre’s operational needs.  HKIIM aims to become a major integrative medical collaborative platform in the heart of Hong Kong Island.  The Centre is not only committed to providing innovative specialised outpatient services in an integrated medicine approach, but is also devoted to create synergy and foster the development of integrative medicine in the areas of service, research and education, thereby benefitting the well-being of the society.

Science Academy for Young Talent of The Chinese University of Hong Kong STEM Programme

STEM education refers to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The STEM Programme will be launched during summer vacation for three years targeting secondary school students. The programme aims to enhance participants' interest in STEM-related disciplines through various lectures, tutorial classes, group discussions, experiments hosted by CUHK lecturers.  A maximum of one hundred participants with excellent academic results in Mathematics and Science will be selected.  The 10-day programme will last for a minimum of sixty hours in total.
