The second “Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarship Presentation Ceremony” was held on 24 September 2015. The ceremony was officiated by Mr Thomas Liang, Chief Executive of the Wei Lun Foundation, and Professor Fok Tai Fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Members of the advisory committee for the Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarship Endowment Fund were also invited to attend the event.

In his welcoming address, Professor Fok Tai-fai expressed his deepest gratitude to the Lee Family and the Wei Lun Foundation for their staunch support to the University for establishing the “Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarship Endowment Fund” in celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Chinese University in 2013. He also encouraged all scholarship recipients to continue to pursue academic success, strive to excel, and grasp every single opportunity to shape themselves to become a better person. “Apart from pursuing your dreams and goals, learn to be grateful and remember to give back to society and help the needy, just like the Lee family and the Wei Lun Foundation,” said Professor Fok.

Through the establishment of the endowment fund, scholarships have been set up for mainland students, medical and law students, as well as exchange scholarships. Under the supervision of the Advisory Committee, the second batch of scholarships has been disbursed in the academic year of 2014-15. A total of 38 outstanding students have been awarded the “Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarships”.

On behalf of all recipients of the “Lee Quo Wei CUHK Golden Jubilee Scholarships”, Mr Tipoe Timothy Liongexpressed his sincerest gratitude to Mr Liang and all members of the Lee family and the Wei Lun Foundation for setting up this meaningful scholarship scheme. “Being a scholar is not merely a fanciful accolade; it is a responsibility that compels us to strive for further achievements and to propagate our legacy of academically outstanding individuals in CUHK and beyond. The Lee family and the Wei Lun Foundation have graciously done their part; it is now up to us to be the best that we can possibly be,” said Timothy.

Participated by over 100 alumni of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the Alumni Mid-Autumn Festival Fundraising Garden Party was held on 23 September 2015 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge.

In his welcoming address, Professor Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, expressed his gratitude to our alumni for their enthusiastic support towards their alma mater. In the pursuit of reaching new heights of recognition and nurturing outstanding young leaders for the society, CUHK appreciates the generosity and wise counsel of our alumni. Professor Sung added that he is delighted to meet with alumni at different stages since their graduation from CUHK on this meaningful occasion. He also introduced the I.CARE Programme in his speech, and encouraged our alumni to render continued support to the programme which aims to develop all-rounded students.

In addition to Professor Sung and Mrs Sung, many senior administrative staff of the University attended the event. They include, Professor Michael Hui, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President; Professor Fok Tai Fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President; Mr Eric Ng, Registrar and Secretary; Professor Jimmy Yu, Head of United College; Professor Justin Wu, Associate Head of Shaw College; Ms Amy Tsui, Director of Communications and Public Relations; Ms Janet Chow, Director of Institutional Advancement; Mr Daniel Cheng, Director of Alumni Affairs; and Ms Connie Au, Honorary Consultant of the Office of Alumni Affairs. Our alumna Ms Akina Fong was the master of ceremony of the event.

Programmes of the Garden Party included a music performance by the Gu Zhang Team of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Staff Association, traditional folk arts booths, lantern riddles, charity sales of CUHK Mooncake and souvenirs, and making festive food with the Vice-Chancellor. All donations solicited through the event will be used to support the I.CARE Programme.

Dr Eddy S H Li, President of the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong (CMA) led a 20-member delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 28 July 2015. The purpose of the visit was to explore opportunities to further strengthen the collaboration between CMA and CUHK.

The delegation was received by Professor Joseph Sung, Vice Chancellor and President of CUHK, Professor Walter Ho, Director of the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services (ORKTS), Professor Wong Suk-ying, Director of the Office of Admissions and Financial Aids, and Ms Janet Chow, Director of the Office of Institutional Advancement. During the meeting, Professor Sung and our administrators introduced to the delegation the endeavor the University has made to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among our students. On behalf of the University, Professor Sung expressed his gratitude to CMA for their long-standing support to the development of CUHK over the years.

Led by Dr Tony Tsoi, Associate Director of ORKTS and Mr Jonathan Chee, Manager of the Pre-Incubation Centre (Pi Centre) of the Center for Entrepreneurship, the delegation visited the Pi Centre, and exchanged ideas on entrepreneurship with our students. Guided tours to the University Gallery and the Yasumoto International Academic Park were also arranged for the delegation. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to reinforce the rapport between the two parties.
