Caring Alumni EcoCampus Trail Routing

Our Beautiful Campus

About the programme

The celebrated beauty of our campus is heaped with many treasured memories of our alumni, students and staff.

Built on the hillside, the CUHK campus is embraced by mountains. Water lies beneath the mountains, and, beyond water, mountains stand tall. Our beautiful campus is the works of several decades on bald mountains. Over 70 per cent of the 137-hectare campus is now covered by vegetation, which is a famous haven for many varieties of flora and fauna which great care has been taken to protect and enhance. The University is home to over 200 plant species including the majority of Hong Kong’s most common trees and many rare ones.

The lush vegetation plays host to migrant birds passing through in spring and autumn from northern lands in winter. CUHK is also home to many species of local birds. A total of 131 bird species have been recorded on campus in 2003, representing about 30 per cent of the 448 species on the Hong Kong list. A stroll through a lily pond, rare trees, a Chinese pavilion, monastic courtyards, or award-winning architecture, various kinds of butterflies, dragonflies and many other insects are sighted. Creatures that make occasional appearances on campus include squirrels, monkeys, feral cats and dogs.
