In appreciation of the support by our alumnus Mr Lam Yat-yan, the Donation Ceremony for Scholarship in Chinese Classical Texts was held on Friday, 30 June 2017 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). With the objective of encouraging students to excel in the study of Chinese classical texts and promoting Chinese culture, the “Scholarship in Chinese Classical Texts” and the “Prize in Chinese Classical Texts” are established to award outstanding students from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of CUHK.

Officiated at the ceremony were Mr Lam Yat-yan and Professor Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President and Director of Admissions and Financial Aid of CUHK. Professor Leung Yuen-sang, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Ho Che-wah, Chairman of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature and Ms Janet Chow, Director of Institutional Advancement, also attended the ceremony.

In her welcoming speech, Professor Wong Suk-ying expressed her sincere gratitude to Mr Lam for his generous support towards his alma mater. She thanked Mr Lam for his contribution towards the education sector, and his endeavour in promoting Chinese culture.

Mr Lam Yat-yan graduated with a first-class honours degree from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of CUHK, and later received his Master of Philosophy specialising in Chinese classical texts and philosophy. This year, he made a donation to CUHK for establishing the “Scholarship in Chinese Classical Texts” and the “Prize in Chinese Classical Texts”. Each year, six outstanding undergraduates of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature will be nominated for the awards.
